Snoop Dogg is the latest rapper to bring his life story to Hollywood. The hip-hop legend broke the news that production was already in motion in April on a biopic simply titled Snoop while speaking at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, and the Universal Pictures film is slated to hit theaters across the U.S. on Aug. 6, 2027.
The biopic will be directed by Hustle & Flow‘s Craig Brewer, while 8 Mile producer Brian Grazer is set to produce the film alongside the West Coast rap legend.
“After my brothers told their story in Straight Outta Compton, it’s my turn,” Snoop said at CinemaCon in reference to N.W.A’s 2015 biopic. “[Brewer] just showed us how hard it is out here for a pimp from Hustle & Flow. And then last year, he got us all singing ‘Sweet Caroline,’” he added of Brewer’s 2025 film Song Sung Blue.
Fellow rap deities like 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Eminem, N.W.A and 50 Cent have all had movies made at least loosely about their life stories, and now it’s Snoop’s turn to hit the silver screen.
Snoop is still releasing new music more than 30 years into his career and he’s completed unfamothable side missions, like being a correspondent for the Olympics and co-hosting a cooking show with Martha Stewart.
The Snoop movie has already started to make casting announcements, with roles carved out for 2Pac, Dr. Dre, Suge Knight and Warren G, all of whom played a significant role in Snoop’s music career, as well as Snoop himself.
