Mariah Carey ‘Unironically’ Reissuing ‘Glitter’ Soundtrack for 25th Anniversary

“I made this album with so much love and care, so it was devastating to watch it become a punchline. I’m endlessly grateful to my fans who kept championing it all these years,” singer says of 2001 LP

Mariah Carey will mark the 25th anniversary of her Glitter soundtrack with its first-ever vinyl reissue as well as a digital edition stocked with unreleased recordings.

While Glitter the film, released theatrically in September 2001 and starring Carey, was met with harsh reviews and a lackluster box office — it didn’t help that the movie arrived soon after 9/11 —Carey’s soundtrack has become a fan favorite, even inspiring a #JusticeforGlitter campaign in 2018 to raise the soundtrack to Number One on the iTunes charts.

“If someone had told me back in 2001 that I’d one day be unironically celebrating Glitter‘s 25th anniversary, I never would have believed them,” Carey said of the reissue in a statement.

“I made this album with so much love and care, so it was devastating to watch it become a punchline. I’m endlessly grateful to my fans who kept championing it all these years, and I hope even more people can finally hear it for what it is. We found a few recordings buried in the vault that I am really looking forward to sharing with you in October!”

Carey also shared one such recording from the vault, a “newly reimagined” rendition of the soundtrack’s “Didn’t Mean to Turn You On” featuring Rochelle Jordan:

The 25th anniversary of Glitter —pressed on vinyl for the first time since its 2001 release — is available to preorder now in a variety of formats, including a limited edition “Glittering Pink” and “Midnight Purple” 2-LP formats.
