Listen to Jay-Z’s first verse since 2022 on Beyoncé’s ‘Morning Dew (Donk)’ remix

Jay-Z has delivered his first original rap verse in four years on a new remix of Beyoncé’s ‘Morning Dew (Donk)’ – listen below.

The track was released today (August 5) as part of a four-track remix pack, with Jay’s verse coming after a reworked chorus and post-chorus. He uses the appearance to brag about his marriage to Beyoncé on lines including, “Bitch so bad, I had to give her my last name” and “We just makin’ love, we just gettin’ rich“.

The original ‘Morning Dew (Donk)’  was surprise released on July 4, making it Beyoncé’s first new song in two years. It is set to feature on the upcoming 20th anniversary reissue of ‘B’Day‘, her second solo record, which is expected next month to coincide with the singer’s 45th birthday on September 4.

‘Morning Dew (Donk)’ dates from the ‘B’Day’ sessions and was written by Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, The-Dream and Darius Dixon, with production by Beyoncé and Pharrell.

Jay-Z’s last original rap verse was his guest appearance on DJ Khaled’s 2022 track ‘God Did’. He later collaborated with D’Angelo on ‘I Want You Forever’ in 2024, although his contribution to the track was spoken word rather than a rap verse.

The married couple also recently performed together during Jay-Z’s three-night run at Yankee Stadium in New York, with Beyoncé joining him on the opening night for ‘Can’t Knock The Hustle’ and on the final night on ‘Drunk In Love’.

Jay-Z will continue his run of big shows with two nights at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on September 4 and 5. He then heads to Paris’ Stade De France on September 10, before two shows at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium on October 23 and 24. Find any remaining tickets here.

For a while now, there have been rumours that he is is working on a the follow-up to his last album, 2017’s ‘4:44’. Despite speculation, though, friend and collaborator Cash Cobain recently dismissed hopes and said that the rapper told him recently that he is “absolutely not dropping an album” anytime soon (via Variety).

The rapper will be releasing one new song with Eminem and Rakim, though, and it will be their first partnership in  25 years and feature on the latter’s upcoming album, due out on August 28.

As for Beyoncé, the speculation about her next full-length project is ongoing, with fans continuing to look for clues about the long-awaited ‘Act III’. It is expected to complete the trilogy that began with 2022’s ‘Renaissance’ and continued with 2024’s ‘Cowboy Carter’, although no official details about the project have been confirmed.
