“Less Than a Lover,” JENNIE‘s wistful summer solo single, tops this week’s new music poll.
Listeners voted in a poll published Friday (July 24) on Billboard, choosing the BLACKPINK singer’s fresh release as their favorite new music.
“Less Than a Lover” — which launched alongside a music video co-written by JENNIE — amassed more votes than any other new music arrival, topping releases from artists including KATSEYE, Macario Martinez, Tyla, Charli xcx, Fridayy, Morgan Wallen and more by the time the poll closed on Sunday. The track received over 62% of the vote.
JENNIE created her “Less Than a Lover” video with director Chooey, filming the visual, which plays like a romantic short film, on the coast of Spain. Credited as co-writer and stylist for the clip, JENNIE’s caught in a hazy heatwave as she tells the story of a girl who “wants to avoid love, wants to avoid responsibility,” who’s “very confused but also knows what she wants: to enjoy summer.”
The first glimpse at what’s next from JENNIE, “Less Than a Lover” was previewed live in New York City at Governors Ball in June. It’s had a place on her summer festival setlist since then.
The song is JENNIE’s latest release since “Dracula,” her collab with Tame Impala that peaked at No. 5 on the Hot 100.
Trailing behind “Less Than a Lover” on the poll is KATSEYE’s new song “Animal,” with 24% of the vote, following by Macario Martinez’s track “Estar Sin Ti,” Tyla’s A*Pop album and Charli xcx’s Music, Fashion, Film collection.
