Beyoncé is bringing the fireworks this Fourth of July.
On Saturday (July 4), the 44-year-old superstar surprise-released a new song titled “Morning Dew (Donk),” marking her first new music in two years.
The track “starts a 60-day countdown to her next birthday, and the re-issue of B’Day, her ground-breaking second album that was released two decades ago on September 4, 2006,” according to a press release.
The smooth, rhythmic four-minute song will appear on the 20th anniversary edition of B’Day, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 following its Sept. 4, 2006, release. The date also coincides with Beyoncé’s birthday.
The LP spawned the Billboard Hot 100 hits “Irreplaceable,” which spent 10 weeks at No. 1, and “Déjà Vu” featuring Jay-Z, which peaked at No. 4, further cementing Beyoncé’s reputation for crafting acclaimed, hit-filled albums that would help define her career.
“Morning Dew (Donk)” was written by Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, The-Dream and Darius Dixon, and produced by Beyoncé and Williams.
The song arrived on all major streaming platforms at 9 a.m. ET Saturday alongside a black-and-white lyric video featuring Beyoncé sunbathing and splashing in the ocean. The visual repurposes footage shot by photographer and director Cliff Watts for Bey’s 2007 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover.
“i personally manifested this i think,” Kehlani commented on a Parkwood Entertainment Instagram post announcing the track.
“Morning Dew (Donk)” marks Beyoncé’s first new music since the release of her eighth solo studio album, Cowboy Carter, which spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2024.
