Zohran Mamdani Jokes About Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce’s Wedding Ahead of NYC Heat Wave

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce‘s reported wedding venue, Madison Square Garden, has a lot of benefits that the mega-famous couple could take advantage of, from the building’s discreet entrances for guests to enter through to its lack of windows preventing paparazzi from snapping photos. But as Mayor Zohran Mamdani pointed out at a recent press conference, it’ll offer another huge benefit during the rumored celebration: shelter against a historic heat wave headed for New York City over the coming days.

Addressing New Yorkers and press on Tuesday (June 30), the mayor emphasized the importance of staying indoors — air conditioned, if possible — and drinking water as temperatures climb to 100 degrees Fahrenheit starting Thursday (July 2) and lasting throughout Fourth of July weekend. The holiday just so happens to be the reported timeframe of a certain pop star and Kansas City Chiefs tight end’s nuptials.

“We know that these temperatures are arriving during what should be a week of celebration, gathering and outdoor fun,” Mamdani said at the press conference, noting the “World Cup matches, Fourth of July events” and more occasions scheduled for what will be the hottest weekend in the city so far this year.

When asked about how it might affect the city in relation to Swift and Kelce’s reported big day, Mamdani said, “My recommendation to all New Yorkers is to stay inside and stay cool.”

“If you happen to be getting married at Madison Square Garden, you will be staying inside and you will be staying cool,” he continued with a smile. “I think it’s a good example to set for the city at large.”

Reports first emerged a few weeks ago that the couple had decided on MSG for the site of their big day — something neither Swift nor Kelce have personally commented on. It also appears that they are keeping their guests in the dark about the location for now.

“I actually asked Travis [where it is] last night, and he laughed at me,” San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle recently told Entertainment Tonight. “I’m half expecting there just to be a jumbo jet on a runway, and they put us on a plane somewhere.”

Mamdani has also previously commented on the wedding, seemingly confirming that it will take place at MSG. However, the mayor’s office told Billboard shortly afterward that he was simply referencing TMZ‘s report that Swift and Kelce had obtained a permit for the arena.

“We know [the World Cup] coincides with July 4, America 250, Taylor Swift’s wedding, all happening at the same time,” he quipped in June while speaking about NYC’s extra safety precautions during a busy time in the city. “And we are so excited to welcome the world here.”
