Authorities Investigating After Body of Deceased Newborn Found on Electric Forest Festival Campgrounds

Editor’s note: the following story contains details about the death of an infant that some readers might find disturbing.

Organizers of the Rothbury, Mich. dance music festival Electric Forest were urging attendees of this weekend’s event to reach out to authorities if they have any information about a disturbing incident during the four-day event.

“Forest Family, it causes us so much pain to have to share this difficult news with you. @michstatepolice continues to investigate this tragic event if you can assist in any way.
HQ is heartbroken and knows that our Forest Family is as well,” organizers wrote in an Instagram post on Sunday (June 28) that included a statement from the Michigan State Police about their investigation into the discovery of a deceased newborn in a portable toilet on the fest’s campground.

“The Michigan State Police continue to investigate the discovery of deceased neonate found Sunday morning in the camping area at the Electric Forest Festival,” read the police statement. “Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance. If you were in the area and observed anything unusual, or if you have information that you believe may be relevant, we encourage you to come forward.”

According to CBS News, the infant’s body was discovered by an employee of the restroom vending company during routine maintenance. At press time no additional details were available on the incident and a spokesperson for the festival had not returned Billboard‘s request for more information.

This year’s event featured sets from Illenium, Kaskade, Excision, Griz, String Cheese Incident, Shpongle, Chris Lake and many more.
