Bonnie Tyler out of coma but remains “very unwell” in intensive care

Bonnie Tyler is out of a coma but remains “very unwell and in intensive care”, her family have confirmed.

The ‘Total Eclipse Of The Heart’ singer, 75, underwent emergency surgery in Portugal last month. She was subsequently placed in a medically induced coma to help her recovery.

Yesterday (Monday June 15), Tyler’s family issued an update on her health via a statement on her official website.

“Bonnie’s family and team would like to update everyone on how she is progressing with her recovery,” it read.

“Bonnie is no longer in a coma but remains very unwell and in intensive care in hospital in Portugal. Although her condition is improving it is a slow process.”

The message continued: “Her doctors remain confident that she will make a good recovery but it is going to take time.”

Her family explained that all of Tyler’s scheduled live dates for this summer were cancelled or postponed until next year, adding: “This will affect every current show until the end of August.

“At present we are still hopeful that our shows in the autumn will go ahead.”

The statement went on: “We apologise to all of Bonnie’s fans and to our promoter partners for the disappointment that this will cause but trust that you will understand and bear with us in these difficult circumstances. We hope to see you next year instead.

“We would like to thank everyone for the huge outpouring of love and support from all over the world that we have received for Bonnie and want to tell you that she is aware of, and very grateful for, your good wishes.”

The statement concluded: “Bonnie’s family continue to ask for privacy and promise that we will issue further updates as soon as there are significant developments to share.”

Prior to her health issues, Tyler had been set to embark on a European tour featuring numerous gigs throughout 2026.

In a previous update on May 12, the star’s family said the Welsh artist was “seriously ill but stable in hospital in Faro”, where she owns a home.

They also addressed some inaccurate speculation over her health, saying that they were “very disappointed at the many lurid and untrue rumours now circulating in the media”.

A previous statement confirmed that Tyler had undergone emergency intestinal surgery.

“The surgery went well, and she is now recuperating,” the message read. “We know that all of her family, friends, and fans will be concerned about this news and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery.”

Ahead of Tyler going into hospital, she told fans that she was feeling good about her upcoming tour and in good health as she prepared to hit the road.

Speaking to Hello! this March, she said: “I’m fit enough at the moment, touch wood, and I’m really enjoying doing the shows. I’m still rocking on that stage with my wonderful band, and if you’ve got your health, you’ve got everything.”

Before then, she told The Mirror (via Wales Online) that, while she has “slowed down” over the years, she had no plans to retire.
