Ricky Martin‘s concert in Montenegro on Thursday night (May 21) was interrupted when someone sprayed tear gas toward the stage, according to the Puerto Rican superstar’s rep.
Martin was starting the European leg of his Ricky Martin Live tour on Thursday night when “an individual discharged tear gas toward the stage, causing an abrupt interruption of the show as audience members moved away from the area and received assistance,” reads an Instagram post from Martin’s publicist, Róndine Alcalá in both Spanish and English.
According to the statement, after Martin exited the stage following the incident, security personnel and local authorities were able to contain the situation and “ensure the safety of those in attendance.” In addition, while some members of Martin’s team advised against continuing the concert, Martin himself insisted that the show resume “in order to fulfill his commitment to fans.”
In a caption for the social media post, Alcalá assures: “Ricky Martin and his team are safe and grateful for the support and concern received following tonight’s events in Montenegro.”
Martin’s next tour stop isn’t until next month, when he plays in Moldova on June 12.

As a precautionary measure, Ricky Martin and his entire team immediately exited the stage while security personnel and local authorities worked to contain the situation and ensure the safety of those in attendance.
Although members of the artist’s team advised against continuing the performance, once authorities confirmed that the situation was under control and that attendees could safely return, Ricky Martin made the decision to resume the concert in order to fulfill his commitment to fans.
The artist will continue his Ricky Martin Live tour with upcoming performances across Europe and additional international dates as scheduled.
