Queens Of The Stone Age’s Michael Shuman shares summer-ready new single ‘LA’ featuring Lily James

Queens of the Stone Age‘s Michael Shuman has shared his new summer-ready single ‘LA’ as GLU with Lily James.

The bassist has been releasing music under his genre-blending project GLU since 2022. This year, he returned with the streetwise new single ‘Pony Boy’, and previous to that dropped his cover of Jennifer Paige’s ‘CRUSH’.

Now, he’s released his second single of the year, the breezy ‘LA’ – featuring “lifelong” friend and actress Lily James. All three tracks will appear on his upcoming EP ‘PONY BOY’, out August 14 via FLG (pre-save here).

Speaking about the track, Shuman said: “Being an LA native, I have a lot of pride for this city. I’ve been on the road most of my life, but I’m always drawn back home to LA. Long term, it’s hard to imagine anywhere else I’d rather live. This song represents that nostalgic feeling of endless summer, and was written and recorded four years ago, but I thought now was the right time for it to be released.

“It’s very special to have Lily on this track and I’m glad that we can still continue to support each other creatively in all of our endeavours,” he added. She is a lifelong friend and I think her voice has never sounded better.”

We last spoke to Shuman about GLU in 2022, where he told us about the impact of the pandemic on his life. “I hate to use the pandemic, but it really made you shift your priorities, your outlook,” he told NME. “I was still stuck in my old ways, but without being on tour or being able to party with other people – my vices stuck around even though I was by myself.”

Elsewhere, QOTSA will open for the Foo Fighters on their massive North American stadium tour this year. Tickets are on sale now – buy yours here.
