Watch Geese’s Newest Fan, Courtney Love, Cover ‘Au Pays Du Cocaine’ Alongside a Pomeranian

Two months after declaring herself “Geese curious,” and one month after upgrading her status to “Geese-blossoming-appreciation,” Courtney Love has taken the plunge into full-fledged, unapologetic Geese fandom by posting an acoustic cover of their recent single “Au Pays du Cocaine” on her Instagram account.

It’s an incomplete rendition that she sang with Baby Queen, a young singer-songwriter Love has been championing for months, and she still hasn’t learned much of the song beyond the “Like a sailor in a big green boat/You can be free/You can be free, just come home” section, but her affection for the material is quite clear. (The Pomeranian nuzzled up to Love on a couch seems to be enjoying it too.)

In a March update, Love said that Geese frontman Cameron Winter “sounds like a 600-year-old man… in the best way” and that the group were like “Daniel Johnston-meets-Rolling Stones.” “I want to talk a little bit about their fans,” she said. “Their gatekeeping elder millennial troll fans. I love my trolls… but the Geese trolls are like another kettle of fish. I feel like it’s 1990 and I’m trying to impress Sonic Youth again. I’m a cool old lady who likes a band, get off my back.”

The wave of respect from Courtney Love comes at a pretty crazy time for Geese. After years of building buzz around their native New York City, they landed a spot on Saturday Night Live in January, a slot on the Coachella lineup, along with other major festivals around the world, and even accusations that their success was somehow due to a “psyop” by a social media marketing firm.

If the latter accusation is bothering Cameron Winter, he definitely didn’t show it on April 15 when paparazzi captured him walking out of a Los Angeles restaurant with Olivia Rodrigo. It’s very possible these was a merely a friendly meal between two musicians, but it sent both the Geese and Olivia Rodrigo fan communities into a frenzy.

Let’s just hope Courtney Love doesn’t hear about it. Back in 2021, she accused Rodrigo of ripping off the cover of Hole’s Live Through This in the artwork for her Sour Prom concert film. If Love learns her new idol is canoodling with Rodrigo, she might downgrade herself back down to “Geese-blossoming-appreciation” or even just “Geese-curious” again.
