Elijah Wood to DJ at “full-blown ‘Lord Of The Rings’ rave experience”

Elijah Wood is set to host a DJ set later this year which is being marketed as a “full-blown Lord Of The Rings rave experience”.

The actor famously portrayed the protagonist Hobbit Frodo Baggins in Peter Jackson’s Lord Of The Rings trilogy, also reprising the part in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and is rumoured to be reprising the part for new film The Hunt For Gollum.

He is also a big music buff, having launched his own indie label back in 2005 Simian Records – which signed bands like The Apples in Stereo and Heloise & The Savoir Faire – and also starring in music videos for the likes of The Cranberries, Beastie Boys, and Danko Jones.

Wood is also a skilled DJ, and performs as one half of the DJ duo Wooden Wisdom. He formed the group alongside Zach Cowie, and previously told Stephen Colbert that they play “play everything from stuff from the ’70s through to the ’90s, a lot of international stuff, African, Turkish, [but] we do not play hits”.

The duo began working together 15 years ago, and now they are set to play a one-off set in Denver, which will seemingly centre around Lord Of The Rings.

Set to take place for one night only at the Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom on May 31, the gig is being billed as a “fantasy-themed event like no other” and “a full-blown Lord of the Rings rave experience set to the sound of carefully curated vinyl selections”.

As well as praising the duo for delivering “genre-defying vinyl sets that weave together rare gems and beloved classics, with lots of 70’s and 80’s disco”, the description for the event also encourages LOTR fans to come dressed up for the set.

“Costumes are encouraged, so dust off your cloaks, and sharpen your elvish ears,” a description reads. “Whether you are a devoted LOTR fan or simply a lover of great music and great vibes, Wooden Wisdom will transport you to Middle Earth and back.”

The set comes following Wood’s headlining set at Fan Expo Denver at the Convention Center, celebrating 25 years of Lord of The Rings, and tickets for the upcoming show are already sold out – find out more about the event here.

For years now, Wood has made it a point to state that he is a part of Wooden Wisdom, and not performing under the alias “DJ Frodo” as some people online have claimed.

He even tried to debunk the rumours during an interview on Seth Meyers’ talkshow nearly 10 years ago, saying that it was “unequivocally false” that he was using the name. “ I’ve had to constantly tell people that that’s no my DJ name, which is so crazy because I would be insane to call myself DJ Frodo.”

More recently, the actor also expressed hope that no-one else plays the role of Frodo Baggins while he’s “alive and able”.

He isn’t the only original Lord Of The Rings cast member to express disapproval of another actor taking on his roles, with Orlando Bloom saying last year that he would “hate” to see another star as Legolas.

The role of Aragorn will be recast in The Hunt For Gollum, with Viggo Mortensen not returning after de-aging technology was ruled out. The film, due out at Christmas 2027, will see Serkis return as Gollum alongside directing, while original trilogy writers Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens will pen the screenplay with Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou, and Jackson is on board as a producer.
